The UPSC holds the IAS exam every year in the hope of selecting the best candidates for the prestigious India Administrative Services. Every year, the application comes out in the month of February. This also includes the eligibility criteria that highlight the conditions that the students and IAS aspirants need to satisfy in order to write the examination.  In fact, the Best IAS Coaching, Chennai suggests that students check the eligibility conditions in detail to avoid unnecessary issues later on. 

A candidate needs to be the citizen of India in order to be eligible for the IAS examination. In case they are of Indian origin from Pakistan, Kenya, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Burma, Uganda, or Tanzania and have plans of settling down in India permanently, they can also attempt the examination. If the exam applicant is a Bhutanese, Nepalese or Tibetan refugee who came to India before January first in 1962, they are also eligible to write the examination.

The candidates are asked to produce documents after appearing for the Preliminary examination to check their eligibility status. If they fail to produce the document thy will be rejected and not be allowed to write the Mains examination even if they have cleared the prelims. The document verification is carried out after the preliminary examination in order to weed out the ineligible candidates and allow only the remaining candidates to move forward. The candidates should also not be more than 32 years of age if they belong to the general category. The minimum age criterion for writing the IAS examination is 21 years.
